Muse uprising album8/3/2023 All I could say for sure was that their latest stab at mixing electronic music, theatrical progressive rock, and classical music was impressive to behold, even for a former nay-sayer. Maybe I’ve learned to see the good in bands whose lead singers I find off-putting at first, or maybe I’ve come to believe that every band deserves a second chance (or sometimes a third!), or maybe Muse just tweaked things enough that I could no longer picture Thom Yorke fronting a band that sounded anything like what they were doing these days. So I remained dismissive, not expecting that their newest release, The Resistance, would come along in 2009 and totally knock my socks off. Suggestions of tracks from Muse’s follow-up, 2006’s Black Holes and Revelations, caused me to respond with similar indifference, not being able to get over Matthew Bellamy‘s “vocal histrionics” (you know, the whiny sort of way that he can draw a note out into a moment of indulgent drama), and honestly not listening closely enough here to realize the band had carved out a very different musical path from Radiohead’s. Deal with it.)īut man, that first impression just wouldn’t die. (Yeah, that’s code for “I’m not a huge fan of The Bends. I had only just gotten to the point where I was starting to appreciate Radiohead’s genius, and that wasn’t even something I thought was displayed consistently on every track they did, so to hear a band doing more loud, bombastic rock with a vocal approach that seemed to unabashedly mimic Thom Yorke at Radiohead’s brooding high point in the mid-90’s, which I thought was a bit irritating even coming from the source, you can see why it wouldn’t be my thing. I downloaded it and gave it a try, and the only thing I could manage to hear was, “ Radiohead ripoff”. It was back in 2003 or so, when their album Absolution was brand new and the band came highly recommended by a few friends who were really taken with the band’s theatrics. And I had pretty shallow reasons for doing so. I have a confession to make: I used to hate Muse. I’m kicking myself for resisting this band for so long.

Human head shapes8/3/2023 Common wisdom has it that the temporal bone (temporal = “time”) is so named because this area of the head (the temple) is where hair typically first turns gray, indicating the passage of time. The temporal bone forms the lower lateral side of the skull (see ). The boundaries and openings of the cranial fossae (singular = fossa) will be described in a later section. The shape and depth of each fossa corresponds to the shape and size of the brain region that each houses. From anterior to posterior, the fossae increase in depth. Inside the skull, the base is subdivided into three large spaces, called the anterior cranial fossa, middle cranial fossa, and posterior cranial fossa (fossa = “trench or ditch”) ( ). This is a complex area that varies in depth and has numerous openings for the passage of cranial nerves, blood vessels, and the spinal cord. The floor of the brain case is referred to as the base of the skull. The bones that form the top and sides of the brain case are usually referred to as the “flat” bones of the skull. This cavity is bounded superiorly by the rounded top of the skull, which is called the calvaria (skullcap), and the lateral and posterior sides of the skull. The interior space that is almost completely occupied by the brain is called the cranial cavity. The brain case contains and protects the brain. Both the temporal fossa and infratemporal fossa contain muscles that act on the mandible during chewing. Below the level of the zygomatic arch and deep to the vertical portion of the mandible is another space called the infratemporal fossa. On the lateral side of the brain case, above the level of the zygomatic arch, is a shallow space called the temporal fossa. One of the major muscles that pulls the mandible upward during biting and chewing arises from the zygomatic arch. Thus the temporal process (anteriorly) and the zygomatic process (posteriorly) join together, like the two ends of a drawbridge, to form the zygomatic arch. It is formed by the junction of two bony processes: a short anterior component, the temporal process of the zygomatic bone (the cheekbone) and a longer posterior portion, the zygomatic process of the temporal bone, extending forward from the temporal bone. The zygomatic arch is the bony arch on the side of skull that spans from the area of the cheek to just above the ear canal. Separating these areas is the bridge of bone called the zygomatic arch. The superior nasal concha is located just lateral to the perpendicular plate, in the upper nasal cavity.Ī view of the lateral skull is dominated by the large, rounded brain case above and the upper and lower jaws with their teeth below ( ). It is much smaller and out of sight, above the middle concha. A third bony plate, also part of the ethmoid bone, is the superior nasal concha. Located just above the inferior concha is the middle nasal concha, which is part of the ethmoid bone. The larger of these is the inferior nasal concha, an independent bone of the skull. When looking into the nasal cavity from the front of the skull, two bony plates are seen projecting from each lateral wall. Each side of the nasal cavity is triangular in shape, with a broad inferior space that narrows superiorly. The upper portion of the nasal septum is formed by the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone and the lower portion is the vomer bone. Inside the nasal area of the skull, the nasal cavity is divided into halves by the nasal septum. The 22nd bone is the mandible (lower jaw), which is the only moveable bone of the skull.Īn anterior view of the skull shows the bones that form the forehead, orbits (eye sockets), nasal cavity, nasal septum, and upper and lower jaws. In the adult, the skull consists of 22 individual bones, 21 of which are immobile and united into a single unit. The rounded brain case surrounds and protects the brain and houses the middle and inner ear structures. The facial bones underlie the facial structures, form the nasal cavity, enclose the eyeballs, and support the teeth of the upper and lower jaws. It is subdivided into the facial bones and the brain case, or cranial vault ( ). The cranium (skull) is the skeletal structure of the head that supports the face and protects the brain.

Best lock pick set8/3/2023 I have two, and it depends on price constraints. So, what is the best beginner lock pick set? What does that leave us with? Bare metal handles, or handles covered in sharp, dry, glue. Not good for learning.Ĭovered handles with bad glue jobs will eventually come unglued. A bare metal handle with edges that aren’t beveled is painful during a long session. Glued on handles aren’t necessarily a bad sign, but beware of sharp edges. Cheap picks will have bare metal handles, or handles that appear to have been glued on. This interrupts your ability to feel the pins, and hampers your learning. Why do you need smoothed edges? Because rough edges catch the pins when picking locks. Which means the best lock pick set for beginners is one with a smoothed finish already. If you’re looking for the a lock pick set for beginners, you’re unlikely to know this. You can smooth the edges after purchasing, but only if you know that you need to. Cheap picks almost always have rough edges and rough finishes. Find a pick with the right combination, and you’re part way to a quality pick. The pick should hold up to tension for higher security pins, but if it has no flex it’s only a matter of time before it breaks. A good pick set needs to be strong, but flexible. What really goes into a quality lock pick set? What do you need to look for that will help you decide whether or not the set you’re grabbing is really the best lock pick set for beginners, or if it’s going to keep you frustrated long after you’ve given up trying to learn? Strengthįirst, look at the steel. Does that make it lower quality? Maybe, or maybe not. Let’s say that we have two kits, each containing the same types of lock picks. This question is a tough one to answer without specific examples. Is this the best beginner lock pick set? I guess that depends on how heavily you weigh price. While we’re at it, let’s toss in a bunch more tension tools. In that case, toss in a couple more hooks of various shapes and lengths, a more shallow Bogota, and a long ripple or “city” rake. You want something that will transition from beginner kit to every day carry? And you’re willing to spend just a little bit more on it. Let’s say you’re not looking for the bare minimum. There are some things missing from this supposed “best beginner lock pick set” but they’re not really beginner level. Failing that, it should have a double Rake, “S” Rake, or “Snake” rake. I suggest a Bogota because I find them to be the most versatile. Next, you need to have access to at least one rake. These two things are necessary in any kit. Best For Name Price Overall Best Peterson Ghost Pick Set (GSP) $74 Best on a Budget Locksmith Training Kit $29.99 Best on a Low Budget TOMTOP Technology $17.24 What should the best beginner lock pick set contain?įirst, if it’s really the best beginner lock pick set, it needs a hook and tension bar.

My guardian credit union locations8/3/2023 In 1822, a British naval surveyor noted that Dubai was at that time populated with a thousand people living in an oval-shaped town surrounded by a mud wall, scattered with goats and camels. Establishment of modern Dubai ĭubai is thought to have been established as a fishing village in the early 18th century and was, by 1822, a town of some 700–800 members of the Bani Yas tribe and subject to the rule of Sheikh Tahnun bin Shakhbut of Abu Dhabi. The Venetian pearl merchant Gasparo Balbi visited the area in 1580 and mentioned Dubai ( Dibei) for its pearling industry. Īn early mention of Dubai is in 1095 in the Book of Geography by the Andalusian- Arab geographer Abu Abdullah al-Bakri. Excavations by the Dubai Museum in the region of Al-Jumayra ( Jumeirah) found several artefacts from the Umayyad period. After the spread of Islam in the region, the Umayyad Caliph of the eastern Islamic world invaded south-east Arabia and drove out the Sassanians. Prior to the introduction of Islam to the area, the people in this region worshiped Bajir (or Bajar). Pre-Islamic ceramics have been found from the 3rd and 4th centuries. The area was covered with sand about 5,000 years ago as the coast retreated inland, becoming part of the city's present coastline. The area was known to the Sumerians as Magan, and was a source for metallic goods, notably copper and bronze. Archaeological finds in the emirate of Dubai, particularly at Al-Ashoosh, Al Sufouh and the notably rich trove from Saruq Al Hadid show settlement through the Ubaid and Hafit periods, the Umm Al Nar and Wadi Suq periods and the three Iron Ages in the UAE. The history of human settlement in the area now defined by the United Arab Emirates is rich and complex, and points to extensive trading links between the civilisations of the Indus Valley and Mesopotamia, but also as far afield as the Levant. History īronze and iron alloy dagger, Saruq Al Hadid archaeological site (1100 BC) The poet and scholar Ahmad Mohammad Obaid traces it to the same word, but to its alternative meaning of "baby locust" ( Arabic: جراد) due to the abundance of locusts in the area before settlement. An Arabic proverb says " Daba Dubai" ( Arabic: دبا دبي), meaning "They came with a lot of money." Īccording to Fedel Handhal, a scholar on the UAE's history and culture, the word Dubai may have come from the word dabba ( Arabic: دب) (a past tense derivative of yadub ( Arabic: يدب), which means "to creep"), referring to the slow flow of Dubai Creek inland. One theory suggests the word used to be the souq in Ba. Many theories have been proposed as to the origin of the word "Dubai". The city has a population of around 3.49 million (as of 2021). Oil production contributed less than 1 percent of the emirate's GDP in 2018. Oil revenue helped accelerate the development of the city, which was already a major mercantile hub.Ī centre for regional and international trade since the early 20th century, Dubai's economy relies on revenues from trade, tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services. In the eastern Arabian Peninsula on the coast of the Persian Gulf, it is also a major global transport hub for passengers and cargo. Įstablished in the 18th century as a small fishing village, the city grew rapidly in the early 21st century with a focus on tourism and luxury, having the second most five-star hotels in the world, and the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, which is 828 metres (2,717 ft) tall. Dubai ( / d uː ˈ b aɪ/, doo- BY Arabic: دبي, romanized: Dubayy, IPA:, Gulf Arabic pronunciation: ) is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the capital of the Emirate of Dubai, the most populated of the 7 emirates of the United Arab Emirates.

Airflow 2.0 plugins8/3/2023 It was actually a blessing in disguise for us. “Everything shut down there as well, so we couldn’t get back. You couldn’t get back to the UK at that time? I was actually supposed to go for two weeks, but it ended up being two months because of lockdown.” I just booked a flight and left the next day to go to Pakistan. Suddenly, I wasn’t even thinking about the burglary anymore. Basically the day after the burglary, I was in my studio with a forensic police officer taking fingerprints, and then my grandma FaceTimed me crying as my granddad, who’s my favourite person in the world, had a brain haemorrhage in Pakistan. How long did it take you to get back into the swing of work after losing that album? And the music’s really different this time around. But now looking back on it, because I started again from scratch: yeah, completely. At the time everyone was like ‘maybe it happened for a reason’. Anyone who’s lost any work, whether it’s an essay, or music, or photos, or whatever, they know the feeling. I definitely learned the hard way about backing up! That was quite intense.” It feels like there was a lot of obstacles, to be honest, but one of the biggest was definitely the studio burglary. “Yeah, it’s been quite a long time between the last album and this one. You’ve faced a few challenges in creating this follow-up to your debut album… Watch the videos below to hear Iqbal talk us through about the album’s troubled gestation and illuminate her creative process. We met up with Iqbal in her London studio to find out more about Dreamer. The album – a second attempt at the follow-up record – sees Iqbal leaning further into her varied influences as well as exploring a widened mix of instrumentation, including sitars and a harmonium purchased on an extended stay in Pakistan. She also host a regular radio show on NTS as well as regularly appearing on stations including 6Music, Radio 1 and Asian Network.Īs a musician, Iqbal’s creative skills cover production, synthesis, guitar playing and her own vocals, all of which have played a role in the creation of her long awaited second LP, Dreamer. Between albums she has collaborated with renowned photographer Wolfgang Tillmans and Chinese artist Zhang Ding, as well as being commissioned to create music for the Turner prize. Nabihah Iqbal is a woman of many talents and a prolific work-rate. Once that has been done I believe macros provided through plugins are functional again. However, for her 2017 debut, Weighing Of The Heart, Iqbal ditched that alias in order to create a more personal record that leaned more towards the influence of ’80s post-punk as well as her own Pakistani heritage. I believe this issue could be solved by ensuring that integrate_macros_plugins sets a reference to the _utils as jw_utils on the airflow.macros module. The result of this is that the macros from the plugin will in fact be imported, but because airflow.macros symbol table itself is not being updated, the macros that are being added by the plugins can not be used in the template rendering context. However, in contrast to the old 1.10.x implementation, this function does not update the symbol table of airflow.macros. When Airflow attempts to prepare a template context, prior to running a task, it properly imports this function and invokes it in taskinstance.py. In order to load macros (or ensure that macros have been loaded), modules need to import the integrate_macros_plugins function from ugins_manager. they will be loaded on-demand whenever a function needs them. Instead they are being loaded lazily, i.e. This is in contrast to Airflow 2.0, where plugins are no longer loaded automatically. Notably, after the plugin's module has been initialized it will also automatically be registered on the airflow.macros module by updating the dictionary returned by globals(). When this happens it automatically initializes plugin-macro modules in the airflow.macros namespace. While doing this I observed that the plugin loading mechanism in Airflow 1.10.x works because Airflow automatically discovers all plugins through the plugins_manager module. After this observation I started comparing the logic for registering macros in Airflow 1.10.x to the Airflow 2.0.0 implementation. I thought it was strange for the test-case to fail on this module, given that the import_module() statement succeeded in Airflow 2.0. This statement tests whether the macros that we create through the JwUtilsPlugin have been properly added to airflow.macros. Specifically it fails on the assert hasattr(macros, 'jw_utils') statement in Airflow 2.0. This test case passes when being ran on Airflow 1.10, but surprisngly enough it fails on Airflow 2.x. # However, in order for the module to actually be allowed to be used in templates, it must also exist on # airflow.macros. # Verify that macros have been registered correctly.
